What I am Reading

I am currently reading three pretty extrodinary books.

The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream

The Audacity of Hope- Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream

This new book by Barak Obama (senator from Illinois, and 08 candidate for president - at least i hope so). This is an excellent study on the past, present and hopeful future of American politics and how we might be able to navigate out of the current quagmire that we find ourselves in presently.

An Emergent Theology for Emerging Churches

An Emergent Theology for Emerging Churches

Ray Anderson writes a great look at re-thinking theology for a new age. He appropriately (so far) seems to understand the difference between "Emergent" the organization/conversation and the seemingly mythical "emerging church" movement - something I have a hard time supporting or proporting as this was never the intended outcome nor should it be. I say that while at the same time seem to fit into that character paradigm.

and thrid, not last:

Qu(e)erying EvangelismQu(e)erying Evangelism by Cheri Dinovo

An excellent look into the idea of "evangelism" through the lens of the margins and with an understanding of queer theory - i/e that we are all a bit 'queer' and thusly all created equal and designed for Gods kingdom.

I strongly recommend all three of these books! Enjoy.

Another day, more the same

Still at home! I thank God that I have an understanding job!

I am much stronger than I was yesterday. I slept into 9:30am, then had some Cheerios and fell back to sleep till well after noon. I guess I needed some extra rest.

We just got done watching "Cinderella Man" w/ Russel Crowe. Pretty great movie. I am a big fan of those non-fictional sports movies (ala Hoosiers, Glory Road, Rudy...). In one part of the movie, you see him and his wife begin to pray - this is after they've lost almost everything. She begins to pray and you see him just sit back and say "I'm all prayed out"

I know I am not going through the Great Depression, but I get to that point - more lately than other times. Times in my life when I feel like, "what's the point, God doesn't seem to listen to me anymore" -  I know that sounds defeatist, and like a heratic, but it's just honesty. When you've had the kind of blows that I have you can't help but feel this way.

I am trying to get my strength for work tomorrow. So, I will try to write more later...

Well...

Last night, I was up nearly all night in pain from my neuropothy. This morning when Mel woke me to get ready for work I tried to stand up and immediately fell down (hitting a wooden chest on the way down). Ah, such is life with CMT.

So, I am at home today resting and trying to regain enough strength for work tomorrow.

Not too much else is happening. My dad suggested that I type on my blog to get my mind off of this....but perhaps blogging about it isn't really helping?

I am anxious to get re-writing my book. Since I have lost two versions of it, I have started to re-examine its premise and format. I am thinking of going in a similar but different direction. The new working title is "The Next Crusade - Love Wins"

This whole idea of differing religions, faith systems and belief and how these concepts interact with geo-political ideologies has been a persistant theme in my life for the last year. It just seems like if we westerners can shed the shrowd of colonialistic/empire-based ideology and how it permiates our faith (s) - that there is so much more love to be had. There is more respect and admiration that we can have with others around the world. Maybe this is rambling, but it is what is on my mind.

Well, that's all I can do for now...got to go lay down again...
